Chemistry of Single use Materials Project
Reflection:
The chemical composition and structure of steel determines its properties because steel is easy to make both iron and coke can melt easily into pig iron. Since steel is easy to make in large quantities with a blast furnace, it’s also easy to melt again into other consumer products. Steel is also made with brittle materials like coke and iron oxide, so the cooler output is a stronger mixture.
When you make steel, the unfortunate part of it is that iron comes with oxygen atoms, making co2 in the process of bonding the metal and carbon together. However, steel is easy to recycle because you can melt the products together without breaking the chemical bond, to make more of the same thing. As long as you don’t put steel in the trash, you are correctly recycling the steel.
I learned what pig iron is and how it contributes to the steel making process. I also learned that iron ore also has oxygen molecules as well. Another thing is that refined coal is called “coke”. I have learned to develop better online research skills and a sense of where to find information. Personally, a partner that can proofread well will work well for my work ethic.
I think Milo and I deserve somewhere between a B and C grade. This is because for 1 we had to switch our idea halfway through project work time, making us really only having 4 days to finish a product I think we did rather well on. The other reason is that we did not have an interactive piece, but I think our use of colors and layout of our poster (including our presenting skills) will have us at the B ish zone. Especially with details such as “Arrives prior to start
of the exhibition, Professional, and respectively engages with the audience”
